Parking

No Bus Parking at the Library

The library does not provide bus parking. There is, however, a very large parking lot at AISD's House Park Football Stadium, 1301 Shoal Creek (15th and Lamar).

Parking Garage

The Central Library Parking Garage has 140 parking spaces. The first hour is free. You can pay for hours 2+ by scanning the QR code on your parking garage ticket to pay from your phone, or pay with cash via the 2nd Floor kiosk.

Street Parking

There is limited metered street parking on nearby streets. City pay stations and the ParkATX app accept credit cards, debit cards, and change. See the City of Austin's Parking page for more information.

School Buses & Vans

DROP-OFF DIRECTIONS:

From I-35: Exit West Cesar Chavez and head west. Turn right on West Avenue and right on 2nd Street. 

From Mopac/ Loop 1:  Exit east on West Cesar Chavez. Turn left on West Avenue and right on 2nd Street.

 

LOADING/UNLOADING:

Load and unload on 2nd Street. Buses should be facing EAST. Pull at or near the yellow banner and the curb cutout. This allows students to enter/exit without crossing the road.

For safety reasons, buses may not load/unload at any other location around the Library.

Biking or Walking

The Central Library connects directly to the many bike and trail systems, including a pedestrian-friendly under-road tunnel that goes under César Chávez and is connected to the Hike and Bike Trail. Additionally, there is a ground-level pedestrian crosswalk at César Chávez and West Ave. Bike parking is available outside the library.

Make sure to check the weather a few days before your visit if you'll be walking, biking, or taking the city bus!
