Accessibility Services: General Library Services

ADA Compliance

The City of Austin is committed to compliance with the American Disabilities Act. Reasonable modifications and equal access to communications will be provided upon request. For assistance and requests, please email ask@austin.tx.libanswers.com or call 512-974-7400.

Language Access

Voiance

The Austin Public Library offers in-person and over-the-phone interpretation services via Voiance, a Language Line provider. This service is provided at every library branch—approach any staff member or call 512-974-7400.

iSpeak

All Austin Public Library branches have iSpeak cards in the most-used languages in the branch's neighborhood. You can select one that reflects your primary language and hand it to any staff member to request interpretation services.

Personalized Book Recommendations

Are you looking for book recommendations? Our team of librarians can give you a personalized list. Fill out our Personal Picks webform and a librarian will email you a list in about one week. If you would prefer to receive your recommendations by phone or mail, please indicate that on the form.

Attending Events

The Austin Public Library is committed to providing equal access to all customers, including those with disabilities, under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you require an accommodation in order to access any Library materials, services, programs or public computers, please communicate with Library staff. All reasonable requests for accommodations will be considered. In the event that a preferred accommodation cannot be provided, Library staff will attempt to provide an effective, alternate accommodation. For more information about accessibility accommodations please call 512-974-7400.

Event Rentals

For questions about renting event spaces and their accessibility, please contact APL's Event Services staff at APLrental@austintexas.gov or 512-974-7585.
