How to Use the Catalog: My Shelves

What are My Shelves?

Add items to virtual shelves to keep track of what you're reading, watching and listening to. You can choose Completed, In Progress and For Later.

Shelves can be private only to you or viewable by the public. Learn more about shelf privacy.

View Shelves

  1. Go to the catalog.
     
  2. In the top right, select Log In / My APL or your user name.
     
  3. From the drop-down menu, choose the shelf you want.

    My Collections with four options: For Later Shelf, In Progress Shelf, Completed Shelf and Lists
     
  4. If prompted, log in. You'll be taken to the shelf you selected. If desired, choose a different shelf to see it:

    If you don't see these options on smaller screens, click My Shelves.

Add Items from Shelf View

  1. Go to My Shelves, choose the desired Shelf and click Add Title.
     
  2. Enter a title, name, topic, etc., and click Search.

    "Austin city limits" has been entered into the search box.

     
  3. Find the item you want and click Add. It will appear on your Shelf.

    "Austin City Limits: A History" was found. A circle is drawn around the Add icon.
     
Note: If you don't find the item, you cannot add it at this time. This used to be an option through Amazon.com, but they disabled it. The catalog company BiblioCommons is looking for a solution.  

 

Add Items from a Search

  1. In the catalog, find an item of interest.
     
  2. Click For Later to add it to that shelf OR click the down arrow next to it to choose a different shelf.
